We intentionally chose the name Known Well Counseling because we believe that being seen for who you truly are can be a transformative experience. This isn’t just a nice sentiment. Being known allows you to heal and, eventually, grow.Â
But why is that? The answers range from philosophical to biological. More importantly, many people have found it to be a key part of their healing process. Maybe you will find it essential too! It is never a bad time to start therapy and begin your self-discovery journey.Â

New Connections Â
Being known well isn’t just about collecting facts about yourself. Emotions, thoughts, memory, and body sensations communicate and support each other. Like members of a team, these all need to work together to be effective. When everything is tangled up inside, it’s hard to see the big picture. When you are consistently seen, understood and accepted, your brain learns to connect its parts--and that makes your inner and outer life more stable, flexible and fulfilling.  Now that is powerful. Â
There’s No Place Like HomeÂ
Your brain can’t fully heal when you are stressed. Growth requires a safe place to rest and think clearly. Feeling seen and understood provides that secure environment.Â
When you are known well by someone, it is easier to exhale. Feeling known signals to the limbic system of the brain that you are safe. Your body can relax and restore itself, no longer needing to be alert for threats of danger. Â
A relaxed brain is a creative brain. As anxiety decreases, suddenly a whole new set of wiser choices become available, and you can act with more clarity. Over time, this new approach becomes the default. This is the key to sustainable change. Â

A Great Reward Â
Did we mention that being known well comes with a literal reward? Meaningful acknowledgement releases dopamine. That’s right, everyone’s favorite neurotransmitter. It is a clear sign from our biology that we need deep, positive connections in life. Â
Building dopamine in your brain makes life feel lighter. In turn, it helps you find more things to be grateful for. Over time, you feel more confident, happier and accepting of yourself.Â
The Benefits of Being Known WellÂ
The bottom line is that when you are consistently known well, your brain changes in powerful ways that can positively impact your emotional stability, identity and relationships… At Known Well Counseling, this is what we do best. Â
